Summary: During Jan-April, 2006, the DataFed VIEW files were re-designed. In particular, the Inter-View Intra-View linking between View element is now data-driven using loosely coupled linking of elements. No more implicit links that are hard coded in the service execution engine. Loose coupling of links is facilitated by XML tags for identifying link destinations. It is hoped that these design changes will allow the creation of web-service programs in a simpler and more robust manner.
The redesigned DataFed VIEW allows a variety of styles to be associated within a VIEW. This allows a 'custom' style to be used for a particular application of the VIEW. If the VIEW is being used in a WMS client that supports OGC styles, the client can select a style most appropriate for displaying the VIEW's data. For example, if the VIEW contains point temperature monitoring data, one client application may need the points displayed as yellow circles sized in proportion to the temperature value at a point. Another client, may need the data displayed as color coded squares. These styles are described and available as named styles in the VIEW. Other custom styles can be created and augmented to the VIEW's style list using the DataFed Browser tool.Rhusar
