All the data mediated through DataFed can be accessed through one or more of the OGC web services (WMS, WCS, WFS). One nagging problem with these services is that the data layers can not be grouped, i.e. all parameters for all datasets have to be lumped into a single server. Consequently, the getCapabilies documents for these services contains 100-1000 layers (Maps, Coverages, Features), one for each DataSet.Parampereter combination.

To reduce the size of data offerings, we have cerated multiple 'servers', one for each data provider i.e. EPA, NOAA, NASA...

each having a separate getCapability document. For the time being, this solves the problem. The disadvantage is that in the service Registreis, e.g. Geospatial Onestop) we need to register our content as delivered by multiple servers. Rhusar 20:37, 11 May 2006 (CDT)
