Characterization of ambient air quality and atmospheric deposition is a fundamental requirement underlying air program management, human and ecosystem health assessment needs shared by multiple Federal agencies. The aggregate convergence of

• recent advances in technology,
• the value of linked multiple-pollutant-media assessments combined with
• decreasing agency resources demand more efficient integration of the nation’s monitoring resources

Accordingly, this strategic effort intends to improve the usefulness of the nation’s air quality observation systems through a leveraged multiple agency approach. Improved data access and interpretation within and across agencies and filling critical observation gaps in line with current and future assessment demands should catalyze this integration.
