Objective: [[:{{{Objective}}}]] (Add New Objective)
NASA's Geosciences Interoperability Office (GIO) is embarking on a collaborative project with the GES and LP DAACs to implement OGC compliant interoperable interfaces.
Our office includes John Evans, Nadine Alameh, Phil Yang, Jeff de La Beaujardiere (partial time), myself - Marge Cole, and our Program Manager Myra Bambacus among others whom are not directly connected to this project as the aforementioned are.
The project consists of an end to end solution in which we implement interfaces at each of the DAACs for specific data sets identified by an end user whom will use the Web Services once available. Chris Lynnes suggested yourself and Rudy as end users: "One user we know wants air quality data in OGC form (WCS I believe) is DataFed (Rudy Husar and Stefan Falke)" We also have a couple EPA projects being run at Research Triangle, NC as end users for some of the data from LP.
At the same time but in a separate project we are working with ESIP on creating an EIE interface to our web services portal, ESG ( www.esg.gsfc.nasa.gov). Dick Wertz and Rob Raskin have mentioned your name in aiding with the Air Quality portlet within this project. We will leverage the work done in the DAAC project with the work in the ESIP/EIE project to ensure all DAAC data made available through OGC interfaces is discoverable within these two portals (accessing the same catalog).
I am preparing to send a draft project plan out to everyone involved in the DAAC project and hope to include your DataFed project as an end user. My expectation for a level of effort from you would be to identify specific data sets you require, add expert advice on what OGC compliance you need (WMS, WCS, ...) and expert advice/comments on your access to these data sets once the interfaces are in place. Throughout this project we plan on building a Best Practices document and would appreciate any input on that, however it would not be a requirement from you.
Please let me know if you are interested in participating at the level outlined and if you have any input on this project at this time. If you are interested in collaborating with us, or at the very least curious about the plan, I will include yourself (and Rudy?) in the mailing of the draft plan and subsequent revisions.
Note: We are in the process of physically relocating and updating ESG. The new version will be available in a week (or so) and new 3D functionality will be added by the end of October.
