2007-06-12: Data Access Service Metadata

The contents of the following datasets in the Datafed Catalog were transformed to adhere to the Service Entry Resource Format so that the metadata may be added to the Global Change Master Directory which can be found at http://gcmd.nasa.gov/. More information about the SERF format can be found at http://gcmd.nasa.gov/User/serfguide/serfman.html. Some of the SERF's are now contained in the GCMD and the links can be found below.

The contents of the following datasets in the DataFed Catalog were transformed to adhere to the Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC) Metadata Standards in order to make them more available to other catalogs. More information about these standards can be found at http://www.fgdc.gov/metadata.
TK Metadata Editor (TKME) by Peter Schweitzer (USGS) was used to transform the datasets, which were then validated with the Geospatial Metadata Validation Service.

The international community, through the International Organization of Standards (ISO), has developed and approved an international metadata standard, ISO 19115. As a member of ISO, the US required to revise the CSDGM in accord with ISO 19115. Each nation can craft their own profile of ISO 19115 with the requirement that it include the 13 core element. The FGDC is currently leading the development of a US Profile of the (ISO) international metadata standard, ISO 19115. The ISO metadata below was created in arcCatalog using the FGDC data described above and translating it using the ESRI metadata Translator into ISO 19115. When the North American profile of ISO is established the metadata will be transformed to meet the new requirements so that it may be added to various metadata clearinghouses.
