2008-10-28: Google Earth Air Quality Layer Clean Up

HTML has web browser, KML has Google Earth browser, simple, on the web
Need to be able to create kml and put on the web - create metadata and data somewhat indp. KML merges data and metadata.
Need to be able to finding - more structured metadata more folksonomy tagging, google geo search.
Need to navigate on multiple axis by author/tags/date/etc.

Legends should be made part of the fixed layer - like icons. Most KML seem to use upper left corner. See Darfur Layer in GE.
Metadata should point to ESIP wiki, url will open below in GE browser - See ESA layer in GE
Could have corresponding GRAY console below in web browser - Example kml of url- See ESA layer in GE
Point/Grd should come as two layers of one dataset (Maybe all layers of a view that are kml'd out become individual kml layers that when loaded are on - but can be turned off/on. Map borders may/may not be needed.
- NSIDC Glacier Pic Example, shows how each view could have multiple layers that include appropriate legends and icons.
Add timeseries to point data in pop up (maybe just for given kml window)

KML Layer development should have interface that is easy to use - Example:Thematic Layer Engine
- Console could allow you to select views and then interface to produce KML that would allow you to order?
Google My Maps - allows creation of map through search based addition of content, easy editing of points/lines/annotation. Converts GeoRSS to KML layer.

Feedback is through a blog post - could be through a wiki page. Every page should have feedback ability - dataspaces link to Dataspaces feedback, kml link to kml feedback, browser, etc. Links from DataFed Viewer/Browser.

Earth Observatory has layer in GE (NASA Satellite imagery) - just links to point in general vicinity of image - could extend this for air quality event pics with download event layers (fire, model, surf cons, satellite images overlaid on GE) and have all data open up with that.
