2008-11-06: Common Alerting Protocol
From Datafedwiki

CAP (Common Alerting Protocol, aka ITU Recommendation X.1303) has become the foundation standard for all-media public warning. As an all-hazards alert format, CAP is envisioned to be implemented worldwide for weather events, earthquakes, tsunami, volcanoes, public health, and many other kinds of emergencies. Seeing that one of the topics of this group concerns "using CAP over XMPP", I would like to invite anyone implementing CAP to participate in the CAP Implementers Workshop, 9-10 December at WMO in Geneva. This Workshop is a discussion forum among CAP implementers and ICT or emergency management organizations. For the provisional agenda and other details, see the meeting site. The provisional list of participants (also posted at the WMO meeting site) includes a cross-section of key players:
- In the commercial sector, participants include Microsoft, ESRI, Google, and CISCO as well as various specialized companies.
- Europe's meteorological services (EUMETNET) will participate as they are moving forward with adopting CAP into "Meteoalarm".
- The Integrated Risk Management for Africa (IRMA) programme will participate, as will the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC).
- WMO participation includes Disaster Risk Reduction as well as Public Weather Service and the WMO Information System (WIS).
I do hope that you will consider participating in this Workshop. Please let me know soon if you want to add a CAP implementation topic to one of the panel discussions, or if you would like to provide a poster or demonstration of CAP-related technology.
