Earth System Services mapped to Human Well-being

The ecosystem supports human well-being. The ecosystem is broken into services and is mapped to different constituents of human well-being.

GEOSS is focused on Earth Observations - bio, litho, atmosphere, hydrosphere all perform services that are needed for human well-being. Another framework for GEOSS could be to identify the Earth Services in each sphere and map them to the human well-being constituent they apply to (breathing, eating). Group Earth Obs. needed to observe/monitor each Earth Service.

The problem with this is that GEOSS is not directly connected to human well-being. It provides an infrastructure for earth obs to be used, but does not determine what earth obs are needed/should be included. The decision support systems that are mapped to human well-being are built on top of the infrastructure using Earth Obs Services available.
