This paper was about the development of participatory electronic product catalogs where the consumer adds value to the system buy using the catalog. It focuses on how to provide contextual information to the consumer about what other people are buying by using mechanical user directly inputs information about themselves, as well as automatic information that is collected by logging clicks, ... All of this is done through different types of user profiles (i.e. session - clicks, system - user id; rights, identification - name; role; contact info, community - categorization into established communities). [GEOSS is missing this profile - this is the feedback through the catalog that would allow providers to glean more information about who they provide to.]

The catalog is continually improved because it gains information about the community as well as collects information from the community about products.

Through continued improvement based on user feedback a relationship is established between the provider and consumer as well as between consumers doing similar things.

This figure shows the integration of both provider product information with consumer-provided feedback into the participatory catalog.
